Day Two at our recent Thrive conference in Edinburgh brought a masterclass in city elopement chic, with this Editorial Elopement Styled Shoot led by the incredible Emma Lawson. With her signature laid-back editorial aesthetic and a touch of old-money elegance, Emma curated a shoot that blended urban sophistication with the raw chemistry of a real engaged couple.

Set against the timeless backdrop of Edinburgh’s historic streets, this editorial elopement shoot unfolded like a modern romance novel. From charming cobbled lanes to an exclusive Georgian apartment, Emma guided attendees through a dynamic session designed to capture both the grandeur of the setting and the intimacy of a contemporary elopement.

THE SHOOT EXPERIENCE

The day was split into two distinct parts, each providing unique insights into elopement photography:

1. The City Stroll

Emma led us through Edinburgh’s historic streets, showcasing how to utilize urban textures and architecture in photography. The couple’s attire – a combination of tailored elegance and soft romance – perfectly matched the setting. The groom wore a velvet suit from Stewart Christie & Co., while the bride donned a delicate dress from Sister Jane. A bold red bouquet by Wedding Flowers by Susan completed their look.

2. The Private Celebration

We then moved indoors to a high-end Georgian apartment located behind a tailor’s shop – a space not open to the public. Here, Emma created intimate, cinematic scenes. Attendees captured genuine “getting ready” moments, the anticipation before the ceremony, and the couple’s relaxed celebration afterward. The newlyweds enjoyed champagne, pizza from Civerinos, and cake by Caked by Catherine, embodying modern love.

Elopements have evolved beyond quick City Hall ceremonies; they’re now intentional, stylish, and deeply personal events. Emma beautifully captured this evolution, balancing high fashion with genuine emotion to create a shoot that was both aspirational and authentic.
