Farmers Image of the Week: An Elegant and
Relaxed Wedding Portrait
This week’s Farmers Image of the Week, captured by the talented Bozena Leray, is a beautiful example of an elegant and relaxed wedding portrait. The image features a couple seated on an opulent settee, framed against an exquisite mural backdrop that adds depth and narrative to the portrait.
One of the standout elements of this photograph is the harmonious interplay between the subjects and their surroundings. The mural behind the couple, depicting a classical landscape, creates a sense of timelessness and grandeur. It acts as a frame within the frame, drawing the viewer’s eye into the composition and enhancing the regal atmosphere of the setting.
Bozena’s use of natural light is another notable aspect. The soft, diffused light highlights the couple’s expressions and details in their outfits without casting harsh shadows, maintaining a warm and inviting feel. The bride’s floral dress, with its delicate blue patterns, contrasts beautifully with the muted tones of the mural and the groom’s dark suit, adding a pop of colour that brings the image to life.
The relaxed poses of the couple further add to the charm of this portrait. Their comfortable, natural demeanour suggests an effortless grace that speaks to Bozena’s ability to make her subjects feel at ease. The subtle details, such as the bride’s loosely held bouquet and the groom’s polka-dotted socks, inject a touch of personality and playfulness into the composition.
Bozena Leray’s attention to detail is evident – The balance between the ornate furnishings, the intricate mural, and the relaxed couple creates a visually pleasing and well-structured portrait. The photograph not only highlights the couple’s connection but also tells a story of sophistication and ease, blending classical elements with modern romance.
This image is a testament to Bozena’s skill in creating relaxed portraits that are both visually striking and emotionally resonant. It’s a beautiful example of how thoughtful composition, use of light, and attention to detail can come together to create a perfect blend of elegance and intimacy. As most of us know, subjects are often not naturally as at ease with themselves and the camera – there’s nearly always a lot of effort in images that seem effortless.

“The moment I walked into the main reception room and saw the murals, golden decor, chandeliers and the pillowed filled sofa, I knew we had to shoot here. “
Newington House is a private family home, built in 17th century for an Italian princess by her husband. The current owners restored it over the years and indeed it feels like a quintessential British countryside house.
The moment I walked into the main reception room and saw the murals, golden decor, chandeliers and the pillowed filled sofa, I knew we had to shoot here. On top of that, the bride was wearing a floral dress and it all came perfectly together in my head.
What I wanted to achieve was this air of nonchalance, like the couple themselves are the owners of the house and just happen to sit down on the sofa before they join their family in celebrations.
I saved shooting these scene to last, taking them to walk around the grounds first. I was hoping by the time we came to this place, they would be used to me and they could just sit down and relax.
THE TECH TALK
Farmers Image of the Week: An Elegant and Relaxed Wedding Portrait by Bozena Leray
Despite windows and sunny weather, the corner with the sofa was a bit dark. Using flash for this photo didn’t really fit my idea for the scene, so raised my ISO and lowered my shutters speed to 1/250sec. It didn’t matter too much, as they were not moving and it gave me more light.
