If a destination wedding is all about far-flung glamour and cocktail hour, then perhaps a domestic wedding can be about staying local and low-key, then grabbing a pint in your favourite pub. This week’s Farmers Image Of The Week is Wes Anderson Inspired wedding Photography from Neil Thomas Douglas that leans into that idea beautifully. It’s a celebration that feels rooted in the couple’s own world – their local neighbourhood in Glasgow and the kind of relaxed energy that comes from doing things your way.
This couple clearly prioritised the real over the performative and this image reflects that. Neil has played into a Glasgow version of a Wes Anderson scene by positioning them between two yellow front doors with a matching pair of steps that lead the eye to the subjects. The groom’s yellow buttonhole and the daffodils pick up the yellow again creating a harmonious grouping where the couple and the doors are the stars.
What’s clever here is the balance of composition and meaning. The symmetry of the staircases frames them beautifully, and the slight shadow from the overcast weather enhances the richness of the tones. It’s gritty in all the right ways, unmistakably Glasgow, unmistakably Neil’s style. There’s texture and depth, and a comfort in the realism of it.
Neil mentions the value of a recce before the shoot, and this image is a great case study in how just a little planning goes a long way. Even in an area you know well, showing up early and walking the streets with a photographer’s eye allows you to find pockets like this familiar yet photogenic, unshowy yet meaningful.
Weddings can be about documenting the life a couple have already built together, and when it’s photographed with the care and intention shown here, the ordinary becomes quietly extraordinary.

“ I absolutely love the character of the Victorian tenements in Glasgow and it’s rare to see two staircases sharing an entrance. “
Evan & Nora got married at a bowling club near their flat in the Southside of Glasgow. They wanted to go for a pint at their local so I’d be for a walk about in the morning to see if there were any interesting spots on the way from the Bowl Club to the pub.
This instantly caught my eye and I knew it would match their vintage vibe. I absolutely love the character of the Victorian tenements in Glasgow and it’s rare to see two staircases sharing an entrance. The yellows doors were an added bonus!
