Lake Como Wedding Photography: Farmers Image Of The Week
This week’s Farmers Image Of The Week goes to Corinne Moffat for this beautifully framed shot taken while second shooting for Maggy Mac at a Lake Como wedding. While we’ve all seen the classic boat shots on the lake, effortlessly elegant, champagne in hand, possibly waving to George and Amal. This perspective feels fresh, playful, and full of narrative.
Why This Image Stands Out
A unique take on a classic scene: The couple on a boat at Lake Como is a well-documented wedding moment, but Corinne’s framing adds a layer of intrigue. By using the ironwork as a natural frame, she gives the viewer a sense of place and intimacy, making us feel like we’re peeking into a private moment.
Composition and storytelling: Rather than just a boat on the lake, this shot adds context. The assumption is that this is the wedding venue, so it ties together the day’s setting with the couple’s adventure. The heart shape in the ironwork reinforces the romance of the scene without feeling forced.
A lesson in second shooting: Corinne made a conscious decision not to mimic the primary photographer but instead to find a fresh angle that complements the main coverage. The best second shooters don’t just follow the lead – they look for layers, context, and unique perspectives that enhance the overall gallery.
Aesthetics and framing: The soft, natural colours and light create a dreamy but grounded feel. The balance of warm and cool tones makes the image feel both elegant and inviting.
A Takeaway for Wedding Photographers
If you’re second shooting, resist the urge to stay close to the primary photographer and take similar versions of the same shots. Instead, think about what extra layers you can bring – frames, reflections, details, or wide shots that tell more of the story.
While we’re sure Maggy Mac’s version of this scene is stunning, Corinne’s perspective adds a different kind of charm – one that feels like a quiet, romantic glimpse into the couple’s world.

“When I’m second shooting, I’m always trying to find a different perspective so that firstly I can give something of value to the lead photographer (instead of getting shots that are similar to theirs) and secondly, to push me creatively to see shots I would never see if I was the lead.“
I was second shooting for the incredible Meggy Mac photography (a close friend and forever inspiration professionally) in Lake Como with a super fun couple!
Meggy of course wanted to get them on to the lake and as we made our way down I decided to hang back because the pier wasn’t huge, there were already enough people going including a videographer & planner and I knew Meggy had a clear idea of what she wanted to shoot and had that covered.
When I’m second shooting, I’m always trying to find a different perspective so that firstly I can give something of value to the lead photographer (instead of getting shots that are similar to theirs) and secondly, to push me creatively to see shots I would never see if I was the lead. I thought this shot was so cute because of the love heart so I was just patient until the boat was in the right place that I could make it happen!
THE TECH TALK
Lake Como Wedding Photography: Farmers Image Of The Week

I tried it a few times but because there’s frames within frames, I decided I wanted the boat to be right in the centre of the image and I wanted to see it clearly against the water. I had also cropped in so you could only see the railings and the love heart with the water and the hills in the distance, but I decided the yellow in the frame gave it more character and encompassed more of what Lake Como is like.
Technically I under-exposed a few stops so that I could retain as much detail as possible.
