Farmers Image Of The Week: Using a Pro-Mist Filter at Weddings
This week’s Image of the Week comes from the talented Jennifer Glen, selected by one of our team members. Jennifer captured this striking shot at our Scotland conference back in March, during a shoot session led by the brilliant Joy Zamora. These hands-on sessions are a key part of what makes our conferences so valuable – they give photographers the chance to not only absorb inspiration from talks but then take it straight into practical application, building portfolio imagery in real time. It’s a rare opportunity to see how top photographers like Joy direct couples, manage light, and work within the location, all while experimenting freely without the pressure of a paid client shoot.
Jennifer’s image is a fantastic example of what can happen when photographers are given space for creative exploration. She’s taken a moment that could have easily been a challenge – the wind catching the veil and obscuring her subject’s face – and transformed it into a compelling visual story. The Pro-Mist filter she used adds a soft, ethereal quality to the shot, reducing the sharpness and creating a dreamlike, cinematic effect that works beautifully here. This intentional haze softens the edges and gives the whole image a sense of timeless romance.
One of the most interesting aspects of this image is the way Jennifer has allowed the veil to dominate, using it not as a background element but as the star of the composition. As the veil wraps around the subject, it forms a sweeping leading line, subtly guiding our gaze across the frame and right into the heart of the image.
This photo also speaks to the power of restraint and observation. Jennifer has held back here, letting the scene unfold rather than forcing it. By embracing the spontaneity of the wind and the natural flow of the veil, she’s created a moment that feels raw, mysterious, and completely unforced. Veils often fly in unexpected ways, but here that unpredictability is harnessed to create a sense of intrigue as the fabric covers the subject’s face. It adds a layer of mystery.
Ultimately, Jennifer’s image shows us how a little patience, a creative eye, and some clever technical choices – like the Pro-Mist filter and the use of a leading line – can transform a potential problem into a stunning visual statement. It’s a reminder that embracing the unexpected and working with what you’re given can often lead to our most memorable images.

“I thought she looked iconic. I tend to over shoot in situations of lots of movement, especially with epic veils!“
I wish I could say I set it up but it was under the amazing session with Joy Zamora during Thrive. Joy was helping us learn how to work with high/strong light and to top it off, the wind was giving a little extra that morning too! We watched Whitney battle the elements with her veil and even as she was blown to bits, I thought she looked iconic. I tend to over shoot in situations of lots of movement, especially with epic veils!
It took me a long time to share it on my feed even though I actually really loved it straight away! I just wasn’t sure if it felt like it fit into my “wedding photography box” but ultimately, I create my own box, it can be whatever I want it to be. Oft- felt all philosophical there 😂
THE TECH TALK
Farmers Image Of The Week: Using a Pro-Mist Filter at Weddings
’I’ve since purchase a Pro Mist filter that I use in high sun situations, and I LOVE IT. I dropped the clarity a lot on this image. I only use it for pre wedding seasons at the moment, yet to actually remember to use it during a wedding. 🤪
This isn’t my tip, it was Joy’s. But he told me to try shooting in mono, so he helped me change my setting in camera and it did really help work out where the light was hitting and without all the strong colours being distracting.
