Farmers Image of the Week: Creative Wedding Photography in Museum Venues
This is another Farmers Image of the Week that has been nominated from within our community, and I’m always grateful that others help spot these brilliant images so I don’t miss something as intriguing as this one by Lou Rob. Taken at the National Museums in Scotland, this is a multi-layered wedding day portrait that showcases the creative possibilities of shooting in an unconventional venue like a museum.
Lou has masterfully composed this shot with layers of visual interest. The glass panel with constellations and text gives the image a fascinating depth. The positioning of the couple behind the glass adds a dreamy, almost cinematic quality, as if they are part of the stars themselves. The reflections and transparency create a feeling of intimacy while also pulling the viewer into the scene as an observer.
The lighting in this image is subtle yet effective. The soft light on the couple’s faces contrasts with the darker, mysterious surroundings, drawing attention to their warm expressions. The ambient museum lighting adds just enough glow to make the constellations and reflective elements stand out without overpowering the subjects.
This image feels intimate and personal, even in such a large and grandiose space. The photographer has done a wonderful job of blending the grandeur of the museum with the tenderness of the couple’s interaction.
Shooting a wedding portrait in a museum offers endless possibilities for creativity, and Lou has taken full advantage of that. The combination of the couple with the astronomical elements of the exhibit makes this an especially unique image. It’s a reminder that great wedding photography can come from thinking outside the box, using surroundings not just as a backdrop but as an active part of the story.
Lou Rob’s work here is an excellent example of how to make the most of a unique venue like the National Museums of Scotland. It’s a wedding portrait that goes beyond the ordinary, mixing emotion with creative vision to deliver something truly memorable. Congratulations to Lou Rob for this captivating image and for being our Farmers Image of the Week!

“It was BUSY, so I had to get quite creative in how I used the spaces. It was also fairly challenging in parts due to the lighting, but I used it to my advantage for this shot. “
This couple were having their reception at the museum but we had a very limited time to get images amongst the exhibits and it had to be while it was open to the public.
It was BUSY, so I had to get quite creative in how I used the spaces. It was also fairly challenging in parts due to the lighting, but I used it to my advantage for this shot. I went in knowing I wanted to shoot through a case or exhibit of some sort and this planetarium was perfect!
THE TECH TALK
Farmers Image of the Week: Creative Wedding Photography in Museum Venues
If I went back and did this shot again I’d probably drop my f-stop down but it worked well as it is. I really enjoyed the challenge of using quite tricky lighting to my advantage and I always try to do *something* new on a wedding day – it doesn’t always work out but this paid off. The couple were so happy with it in their sneak peeks and it’s probably my fave shot from the day. Technically it might not be perfect, but all the feeling is there!
