Inclusive Wedding Photography: Farmers Image Of The Week

It’s funny how we get in our own heads as photographers. We see so much work from our peers that it becomes hard not to compare, especially in the pressurised environment of a group shoot. If you’ve ever felt the sting of imposter syndrome after scrolling your feed, you’re not alone.

That’s exactly why this image from Ruby Walker stopped me this week. She posted it a few years after taking it, admitting that at the time, she didn’t feel confident enough to share it. She’d seen what others had captured at the same workshop and convinced herself her own work didn’t measure up. But coming back to it with fresh eyes gave her the clarity to see what she had created – and to be proud of it.

And honestly? I’m glad she did. Because this image is stunning.

It’s from a workshop hosted alogside Stephanie Dreams Photography called Love For All – a queer-owned, inclusive workshop designed to centre LGBTQ+ love in all its beauty. The styling is joyful and expressive, with both grooms stepping confidently into fashion-forward, non-traditional looks. Ruby frames them in that soft evening light, side by side, bouquets in hand, holding a confident gaze to camera.

There’s something in the pose that’s both deliberate and playful. And while the styling is bold, Ruby’s composition keeps things simple. I love this fine art and soft approach in the portrait that makes it timeless in its own way.

This is what Farmers Image Of The Week is for. Not just to highlight brilliant photography, but to celebrate growth. To remind ourselves that sometimes we’re too close to our own work to see its impact. Thank you to Ruby for revisiting this and for sharing it with us. And a huge shoutout to Stephanie for creating spaces where photographers – and love stories – can truly thrive.

WHAT RUBY SAID

We’d pretty much wrapped for the day, but I had a few smoke bombs left from a wedding and couldn’t resist one last burst of colour.”

This photo was taken back in 2021, at the Love For All workshop at The Mount Without, hosted by Stephanie Dreams and myself. We’d pretty much wrapped for the day, but I had a few smoke bombs left from a wedding and couldn’t resist one last burst of colour.

We gave Rhys (they/them) a little outfit glow-up – layering the pearly skirt from Crazy in Love Bridal over their suit trousers. I was inspired by their drag roots, the way they move in those heels, bold and brilliant. I wanted their outfit to match their personality even more.

The smoke cleared a little and the light shone through giving us the beautiful haze and hint of backlight. The photo felt strong, unapologetic, full of them. A celebration of queerness, of softness and strength all at once.

They’re not together anymore, but I hope this image still feels like magic to Rhys, maybe in a different way now..but magic all the same.

THE TECH TALK

This photo was backlit, which I always think adds a romantic, more ethereal feel to a photograph. I brightened it a little to bring out the details in their outfits and warmed it up in Lightroom by boosting the temperature, but aside from that, I didn’t have to edit this photo.

The 85mm lens has such a distinctive bokeh, I absolutely love shooting with it. I just wish I always had enough room to use it all day.
