Zoë Alexandra is the reason I bought an 85mm lens in the first place. I had tried this focal length before and for some reason didn’t get on with it but seeing how incredibly well that she employs an 85mm made me want to give it another try. Then I found my sweet spot with it and fell in love – I wouldn’t ever not have one in my kit now and seeing this shot from Zoë reminds me again of how masterful she is with hers.
The framing of this image is exquisite and the tones of her custom preset from Amy-Leigh at the Northern Preset Co are just perfection. This is pretty and powerful in equal measures. The couple just look so serene, connected to each other, set in the landscape but not overwhelmed by it.
What Zoe Said…
“Kirsten and Murray eloped in the most beautiful spot overlooking Loch Etive. I knew as soon as we arrived that this was the backdrop I wanted to use for their portraits, directly opposite their ceremony. I almost always save my favourite spot until towards the end of the shoot, as this is when the couple are most relaxed and it allowed me time to focus on my composition and line up all the elements. When your couple elope somewhere this beautiful it’s easy to let the landscape take over, the natural reaction is to go wide and get all that stunning scenery in, which of course we did, and have plenty of wide versions of the same shot. The 85mm is much more intimate and brings the focus back to them, the shallow depth of field throws out the landscape enough that it doesn’t dominate but still gives the most incredible backdrop.“
