This week has seen a lot of photographers taking part in a five day Black & White Challenge. I have no idea who started it or why but the idea is simple. Post a B&W image each day for five days on Facebook and nominate someone else to do the same. I have enjoyed picking out images for it and just looking back through your body of work and isolating some images gives them a new gravitas, especially as the subject's social histories have moved on from then. I have also heard a couple of rumblings this week from brides (not mine) saying that they can't help comparing their wedding images to some that they see on pinterest. Us photographers compare our work to other's all of the time and it can lead to feeling not good enough.

I think it's the same thing in both cases.. when couple's get their wedding photos, they get the full set and yes some might not be that thrilling to you now but as life moves on they too acquire new gravitas. I really wish that nobody would feel that they need a Pinterest Wedding. It is amazing for getting ideas but weddings are about this.. having a laugh with your mates, being silly in a wedding dress, creating memories  that will make you smile when you are old and grey and this is what you need a great wedding photographer for. This image is by the lovely Nikki Cooper and just sums it all up for me...
